The Guardian ad Litem mission
is to recruit, train, support and supervise volunteers to advocate for
the best interest of children who are alleged to be abused, neglected or
abandoned and who are involved in court proceedings.
Thousands of abused and neglected children become the subject of
judicial proceedings each year in Florida. Their voices are often
unheard, and best interests overlooked in the complicated and
overburdened adversarial process. Guardians Ad Litem are volunteers,
along with professional staff members who represent the best interests
of assigned children. The Guardian Ad Litem is a representative for the
child before the court, social service agencies and the community.
He/she also protects the child during the family crisis and court
proceedings. The job of the Guardian ad Litem Volunteer will include the
following, with the goal of finding a safe and permanent home for these
children:
|
- Monitoring the child's case to insure proper services are
received
|
- Protecting the child from insensitive questioning
|
- Speaking for the child in court
|
- Reporting information to assist the Court in determining the
best interests of the child.
|
|
Volunteers and
donations are always needed. We thank
you for showing interest for the children within your community.
